What does it do?

Eyelash Extensions are semi-permanent fibers that are attached to your natural eyelashes in order to make your lash look longer, fuller, and darker. The main method of applying the extensions is by using a cyanoacrylate adhesive to apply the extensions to the natural lash 1–2 mm from the base of the natural eyelash, never making contact with the eyelid.

Contraindications for Eyelash Extension
Eye Infections and Inflammation:
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye):
    This highly contagious infection causes redness, itching, and discharge, making lash application risky. 

  • Blepharitis:
    A chronic inflammation of the eyelids that can cause irritation and sensitivity, potentially reacting negatively to lash adhesives. 

  • Stye:
    A painful, pus-filled bump on the eyelid, indicating an infection that needs to heal before extensions are applied. 

  • Other Eye Infections:
    Any active infection in or around the eye area should be addressed before lash extensions. 

Recent Eye Surgery:
  • Recent Laser Eye Surgery
    A healing period of at least 6 months is generally required after laser eye surgery to allow the eye to recover fully.
  • Other recent eye surgeries:
    Any surgery involving the eye or surrounding area necessitates a consultation with a medical professional and a waiting period before lash extensions. 

Allergies and Sensitivities:
  • Allergy to lash extension adhesive:
    A patch test is crucial to identify any allergic reactions to the glue or other products used. 

  • Other allergies:
    Individuals with a history of allergies to adhesives, dyes, or other materials used in the procedure should be cautious. 

  • Sensitive eyes:
    Those with highly sensitive eyes may experience irritation or discomfort from the application process. 

Chronic Eye Conditions:
  • Dry Eye Syndrome: This condition can cause discomfort and irritation, potentially making lash application problematic. 

  • Glaucoma: A serious eye condition that can be exacerbated by lash extensions. 

  • Diabetic Retinopathy: This condition, often associated with diabetes, can affect the blood vessels in the eye, making lash extensions risky. 

Other Factors:
  • Trichotillomania:
    A condition characterized by the compulsive pulling out of eyelashes, which can make it difficult to apply extensions and maintain them. 

  • Alopecia:
    Hair loss, including eyelashes, can make it challenging to apply extensions and achieve satisfactory results. 

  • Hay Fever and Severe Allergies:
    These conditions can cause excessive eye rubbing or watering, making it difficult to apply and maintain lash extensions. 

  • Pregnancy:
    While generally considered safe, pregnant women should consult with their doctor and consider a patch test before getting lash extensions. 

  • Chemotherapy:
    Individuals undergoing or recently completed chemotherapy should consult with their healthcare provider.
